I recently photographed an event for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada that took place on April 27th at Swangard Stadium. That event was the(new to Vancouver) Hawaiian themed Pineapple Challenge which saw 54 teams of 2-10 people dress up in silly and creative costumes and take part in a 5km race through an obstacle course. The event saw over 240 participants, 100 volunteers, and raised over $80,000 which will support lifesaving blood cancer research and local patient services.
This was a phenomenal event even despite the pouring rain that drenched everyone throughout the day. All the participants had incredibly high spirits, were decked out in remarkably eccentric, psychedelic, whimsical, and comical outfits, and were totally gung-ho all through the races. I absolutely loved the commitment and energy of every last participant who pushed through to the finish, and every volunteer who helped out with soaked feet and cold fingers to the very end. It was a really great example of how we as humans can come together to achieve some really great things.
Have Fun! Get Dirty! Save Lives! That’s exactly what this event was all about!
